Michelle Kim LCPC
Licensed Clinical Professional CounselorMy name is Michelle Dongeun Kim, and I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) with a passion for helping individuals navigate life’s challenges. My journey began with studying Human Psychology at DePaul University and was furthered by earning a Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Benedictine University. At the College Counseling Center, I had the privilege of working closely with college students, and I spent several years in private practice, where I continued to expand my expertise and refine my approach to therapy. While my formal education and professional experiences have equipped me with essential knowledge and skills, I believe my most significant credentials stem from my personal journey. Through my own struggles and hardships, I have learned the power of resilience and self-reflection. It is this lived experience that allows me to connect deeply with my clients and provide genuine empathy and understanding.
I offer both online and in-person therapy in Korean and English to ensure accessibility for diverse populations. My specialization lies in working with adults facing a range of challenges, including PTSD, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, addiction, parenting concerns, grief, mid-life crises, and adult developmental issues.
As a 1.5-generation Korean immigrant, I have particular expertise in supporting first- and second-generation immigrants who grapple with navigating cultural complexities and language barriers. Whether it’s adapting to American culture or reconciling differences within one’s own cultural background, I am committed to providing a safe and inclusive space for exploration and healing.
I am deeply passionate about empowering individuals to discover their inner strength and resilience, and I look forward to accompanying you on your journey toward growth and self-discovery.
I utilize a variety of approaches to treatment, including Internal Family Systems (IFS), Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). I have completed Level 1 IFS training through the Internal Family Systems Institute and am an IFS practitioner. Additionally, I offer Christian counseling for clients interested in integrating their faith into the therapy process. I strongly believe that no single approach works for every client and that counselors have a responsibility to be well-versed in various modalities to help clients reach their full potential.
