- Mandy Yingzi Zhang, LSWLicensed Social Worker
I'm passionate about working with individuals to address issues such as emotional regulation, self-esteem issues, anxiety, depression, cultural conflict, trauma, stress management, and life transitions. As an Asian therapist, I have extensive experience working with different generations of Asian immigrants, multicultural individuals, and others in marginalized communities. I aim to bring mental health services to underserved communities in a linguistically appropriate and culturally sensitive manner. I strive to establish a compassionate, comfortable and safe space for my clients to be where they are.
I utilize and have been trained in a wide range of therapy approaches including EMDR, CBT, Trauma-focused-CBT, ACT, Strength-based, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, Culturally-sensitive and Client-centered approaches, etc.
I was born and raised in the Southeast part of China, which enables me to relate to many Asian immigrants’ family culture and values. I went to the University of Wisconsin-Madison for Bachelors in Psychology, and later obtained a Master's degree in Clinical Social Work at the University of Chicago. Dancing is the major self-care activity for me and I've practiced it for over a decade. I chose the mental health care field because my mom, a physician for women’s health care and also a Buddhist practitioner, impacted me a lot since I grew up.
I always tell my clients that therapy is like a road trip – I will be sitting in the passenger seat to guide and support the driver, but you are the one who is driving this car in the whole trip of your life. I trust my clients, create a safe and welcoming space, and empower them to be their own expert in this healing process.Office location: Telehealth only for IL and IN residents
