John Choi, MA, LPC

John is a graduate of Wheaton College's Clinical Mental Health Counseling program where he also completed a B.A in Philosophy. He understands the challenge it may be for clients to begin the counseling process and takes the approach of confronting anxiety, past hurts, or broken relationships at their own pace. In his work, he often finds in clients the remarkable perseverance to overcome immense uncertainty and collaborates with them to build on their strengths and expand their growth edge. Clients find in him a personable and willing listener, attending to the unique facets of one's life story and individual context. It is his hope to hold a space for healing and recovery by being a trusted confidant with things that matter most in one's life.

John's area of focus includes anxiety and depression, grief and trauma, and life transitions. He values walking alongside adolescents, college students, and adults in individual and group counseling settings. Additionally, he has worked with men resolving past traumatic events. Consistent with the view that therapy should be tailored to individual needs and differences, he takes an integrative framework of treatment by combining the best of various theoretical approaches including psychodynamic theory as well as cognitive-behavioral therapy.
